South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee, the Netherlands’ Scott Edwards, and Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood were reprimanded and handed demerit points added to their disciplinary records.
Coetzee has been reprimanded following an incident during the fourth T20I match of India’s tour of South Africa 2024.
While bowling the 15th over of the innings, Coetzee is said to be made some inappropriate comment to the umpire after the official signalled one of his deliveries as wide.
He later admitted to the level 1 offence, accepting the sanctions and fine of 50% of his match fee by official Andy Pycroft. Meanwhile, he has been named in the South Africa squad for Sri Lanka tests at home.
Coming to Scott Edwards’ case, during the third T20I match between Oman and Netherlands, the skipper Scott Edwards and Oman bowler Sufyan Mehmood has been handed a 10 percent of match fee.
Edwards was charged for two breaches – Article 2.8 and 2.2, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
After the first umpire ruled his lbw, the Netherlands captain responded with pointing his bat to umpire. On his way back to dressing room, Edwards threw his bat and gloves on the field, leading to two demerit points one each for both the incidents.
Meanwhile, Sufyan Mehmood was giving a send off to Netherlands batter Teja Nidamanuru was deemed as an act violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
It relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
Both the players admitted the offence and accepted the sanctions imposed on them by ICC international panel of Match Referees and there was no need of formal hearing. The Netherlands secured a 2-1 T20I series win with a victory in the third match.
