    Gerald Coetzee ruled out of second Test owing to injury

    The Pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test of India’s South Africa tour in 2023 due to injury.

    The 23-year-old Pacer Gerald Coetzee had developed Pelvic inflammation on the 3rd day of the first test against India at Centurion. He developed an injury after bagging a wicket in bowling five overs of the first innings.

    The Hosts have won the match by an innings and 32 runs and led the series 1-0. Cricket South Africa has opted to name a replacement for the second Test match at Cape Town.

    They have Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder as fast bowling options for the replacement and have the option of bringing in Keshav Maharaj as well who was selected for the first Test.

    After Temba Bavuma was ruled out of the second Test, Dean Elgar was named as the captain for the second squad. Gerald Coetzee was the second player to be sidelined for the upcoming Test after Bavuma. His absence might help India after their loss in 1-0 in the Boxing Day Test.

    Winning the toss, South Africa chose to bowl where they had early dismissals and stunned the Indian side. Rohit was sent out by Rabada for 5 runs while Nandre Burger dismissed Shubman Gill and Jaiswal for two and 17 runs.

    Virat Kohli had 38 runs before his dismissal by Rabada. At the moment, KL Rahul shined to smash a century on 137 deliveries. Other wickets were dismissed at regular intervals. With the dismissal of KL Rahul for 101, India concluded their innings for 245 runs.

    After starting the second innings, India was folded for 131 runs in the second innings and lost the match.

    Despite losing their first test, India will be playing their second test against Proteas men starting on January 03, 2024, at Newlands Cricket Ground.
