Gautam Gambhir’s Selfless captain remark on Rohit targets Virat Kohli

Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir hails the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma as a selfless cricketer and for leading the side during India’s World Cup clash against England.

Gambhir’s Selfless Captain Remark on Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been one of the consistent batters in the World Cup 2023 and was the one who helped the side on an unbeaten run in the tournament so far.

He helped the side as England dismissed three wickets earlier on Sunday when Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck. Rohit Sharma scored 87 runs on 101 deliveries reviving the side during the match against England.

On this occasion, Gautam Gambhir hailed the captain as a selfless cricketer during the match. However, a group of cricket fans felt the statement was indirectly targeted towards Indian star Virat Kohli.

Gambhir thinks that if records and numbers had been the skippers’ priority, he would have at least 40 or more centuries in ODI cricket.

“Rohit Sharma would have got 40-45 hundred by now, but he is not obsessed with hundreds. Only a selfless leader does it first what he wants from the team. If you want a positive batting mindset from the team, then you have to do it first. That is called leading from the front.”

“No amount of PR or marketing would get you that. You have to do it yourself and that is what Rohit Sharma has done in this World Cup. His average may not say that or his run tally might place him in the 5th or the 10th spot, but that doesn’t matter.”

“But if you want to lift that trophy on November 19, that should be your aim. Now you have to decide whether you want to score a hundred or win the World Cup,” he said on air during the England clash.

The comment did not go down well with Kohli’s fans as they felt the former cricketer indirectly targeted the Indian start in the wake of social media outrage after India’s World Cup game against Bangladesh where Virat Kohli smashed a century.

He missed a century during the match against New Zealand which could have tallied with the records of Master Blaster who have 49 ODI centuries. Besides the Indian star was sent out with a duck by David Willey on October 29 at Lucknow Stadium. By the end of 50 overs, India scored 229 runs losing 9 wickets at Lucknow Stadium.
