Recently former player Sanjay Bangar has named his picks for India’s World Cup squad. Being the hosts, more expectations were raised on India’s victory in the big tournament.
On this occasion, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir made some surprise inclusions for the World Cup squad where Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur were excluded. But there is a shocking surprise where Washington Sundar is included and Prasidh Krishna is placed in the squad as the fourth bowling option.
He picked Ishan Kishan for wicketkeeper having KL Rahul as backup. He named Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul for the batting line-up. He has also excluded Tilak Varma from the squad.
On speaking about allrounders, Gambhir has picked Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar. Kuldeep Yadav was picked as the third bowling option. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami had been picked for fast bowler options.
India is currently playing in the Asia Cup 2023, where the IND-PAK clash in September 2, concluded with no result due to rainfall. If India wins the match against Nepal in the 5th match of the continental event, they will be qualified for the Super Four.
With Pakistan Qualified for Super Four, there will be another IND-PAK clash in the Super Four.
India has started its preparations for the World Cup with experiments on young players from the West Indies tour. The squad selected by the BCCI for the Asia Cup will likely be the base squad for the ICC tournament with some changes in it.
After completing the Asia Cup campaign, India will be playing a three-match ODI series against Australia and two warm-up matches against England and the Netherlands before heading for ICC men’s ODI World Cup 2023.
Asia Cup will serve as the warmup and give experience to the young players. India will be facing Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
