Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir accused batter Sarfaraz Khan of leaking the dressing room information during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Indian cricket team gets under the scanner during the BGT 2024-25 in Australia right after the conversation in the Indian dressing room was leaked to the media. According to reports, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir slammed the players and threatened them after the team’s defeat in the fourth match.
The report further added that Gambhir told the players to follow his instructions or else sit out of the team. He also slammed Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant for his reckless shot in the second innings in Melbourne and blamed him for the loss.
Several former Australian players mocked the visiting team when this information was published. While Gambhir was asked about it by a journalist during his presser, he didn’t say anything directly but spoke about the need of keeping conversations behind closed doors.
According to a latest report, Gambhir informed BCCI stakeholders that Sarfaraz Khan was to blame for telling the media about his tirade in the dressing room following the defeat in the Boxing Day Test.
The report also stated that Sarfaraz is not satisfied with BCCI stakeholders, who may not allow him to play for India as long as Gambhir is the head coach. However, the report did not disclose whether Gambhir had any evidence to support his allegations against Sarfaraz.
Notably, Sarfraz didn’t play a single game during the five-test match series where Australia reclaimed the Border Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years by beating India 3-1.
Following the worst defeat in the BGT 2024-25, Gambhir’s position as Indian head coach comes under scrutiny. A report claims that the decision regarding his future in the Indian cricket team will be taken following the Champions Trophy 2025.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, India are scheduled to play England in a white-ball series. A five-match T20I series is set to get underway on January 22, followed by a three-game ODI bilateral. The first T20I will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
