Gambhir opens on his relationship with Kohli, says ‘we exchange messages’

Gautam Gambhir who had an unpleasant past with Virat Kohli reveals his plan on working with the star batter as Indian head coach in the upcoming days.

Right after Rahul Dravid stepped down as the Indian head coach BCCI roped Indian former cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach for the team. Following his appointment, fans started to dig into his past unpleasant relationship with the Indian star batter Virat Kohli.

Owing to this duo’s clashes in the past many started to fear that it might cause trouble inside the Indian dressing room in future.

Gautam Gambhir in his first press meet as Indian head coach revealed his relationship with Kohli and vowed to work together to make Indian fans happy.

“Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public. What kind of a relationship I share with Virat Kohli… I think it’s between two mature individuals. On the field, everyone has got the right to fight for their own jersey and come back to a winning dressing room.

But at the moment, we’re representing India, representing 140 crore Indians and I’m sure we’re going to be on the same page and try and make India proud”, Gambhir said in his first press conference as Indian head coach.

Gambhir revealed that he maintains a good relationship with the former Indian captain and ensures to continue the same in the future.

“I share a very good relationship off the field and will continue to do that. But yes, to make it more public what kind of a relationship… I think it’s between two individuals.

Gautam Gambhir also revealed that he has had a lot of chats with Virat Kohli, since the time he was appointed as Team India’s head coach.

I’ve had a lot of chats with him… we’ve shared messages. It’s not important what we discussed, how many chats have I had with him, after my announcement or before my announcement or during the game, after the games.

Sometimes, just because we want headlines, it’s not important. Right now, the most important thing is we both are going to be working extremely hard to make India proud. And that’s our job, Gambhir added.

In the same press meet, Ajit Agarkar revealed the reason for naming Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain of the Indian cricket team over Hardik Pandya.

A few months ago, even Virat Kohli admitted that many people were disappointed after his recent approach with Naveen-ul-Haq and Gautam Gambhir.

“People are very disappointed with my behaviour. I hugged Naveen, and then the other day, Gauti bhai [Gautam Gambhir] came and hugged me. Your masala is over, so you’re booing. We’re not kids anymore,” Virat had said during a Puma event.

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will both work together for the first time in the upcoming India tour of Sri Lanka where a total of three T20Is and as many as T20Is will be played.

As Virat Kohli announced T20I retirement, he is expected to feature in the ODIs which will be played between August 2 and 7 in R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
