Police have arrested four persons in Navi Mumbai, among them a scrap dealer and a caterer, for allegedly placing bets on cricket matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), police said on Monday.
Four Arrested in Navi Mumbai for IPL Betting
Officials of the Crime Branch of the Navi Mumbai police on Sunday night raided a premises in the city and arrested them for accepting bets on IPL matches on mobile phones, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime Vinayak Vast said.
They also seized mobile phones and cash totalling Rs 3,20,600 from the quartet, he said.
Offences under relevant provisions of the IPC, the Information Technology Act and the Indian Telegraph Act were registered against the four identified as Iftekar Ahmed Ishrak Ahmed Khan, 31, scrap dealer, Alokkumar Shiv Kumar Gupta, 45, a jockey in a club, Imran Salim Sheikh, 25, a chemical dealer, and Mohammad Yusuf Mohammad Yunus Dadda,42, a caterer, the police said.
As far as the tournament is concerned, the multiple tittle winning teams Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings face a downfall after the inclusion of 2 new IPL teams in the 15th edition of the tournament.
With a total of 10 teams competing, both CSK and Mumbai Indians hold the last two positions in the IPL 2022 points table respectively. Both teams have played a total of 6 league matches so far where Mumbai lost all 6 matches while CSK won a single match which is against RCB.
Both teams will face each other on April 21 in DY Patil Sports Academy to play the 33rd league match of the Indian Premier League 2022. This match will play a crucial role for both teams as it marks the 7th outing for both teams which is the midway of the season’s total league matches – all 10 teams will play 14 league matches each.
