Former Indian bowler David Johnson has passed away tragically after falling from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment in Bengaluru. Johnson has played 39 first class claiming 125 wickets and 33 List A where he claimed 41 wickets and two test matches in his career.

He earned a spot in the Indian cricket team following an impressive performance in the domestic circuit where he played for Karnataka. His domestic career shined during the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy where he had astonishing bowling figures of 10 for 152 against Kerala.

He made his test debut against Australia in 1996 after he was included in the squad due to Javagal Srinath being sidelined due to injury. He also played in India’s tour of South Africa in December 1996.

After his retirement, Johnson has been running a cricket academy near his home but has not been in good health recently. His death has shaken the entire cricketing community, leaving many fans sad about losing the dedicated coach and former player.

“We were informed that he had fallen from the fourth floor of his apartment building. He was taken to a hospital but the doctors declared him dead,” the KSCA official told PTI.

The legendary bowler Anil Kumble has been informed of Johnson’s death, taking to his official X account and offering his condolences to the family.

“Saddened to hear the passing of my cricketing colleague David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon “ Benny”!” wrote Kumble.

BCCi’s secretary, Jay Shah recalled the former bowler’s contributions saying, “Deepest condolences to family and friends of our former Indian fast bowler David Johnson. His contributions to the game will always be remembered,” said Jay Shah.
