Ravichandran Ashwin becomes the first India bowler to dismiss father and Son in a Test match. Ashwin achieved this during the opening day of the first test in the West Indies tour 2023.
First Indian bowler to dismiss father and Son
Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved getting the wickets of both father and son in his Test career after he dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul on the first day of the 1st Test of the West Indies tour 2023.
Ashwin who made his Test debut in 2011 dismissed Tagenarine’s father Shivnarine Chanderpaul during his maiden appearance in the long format.
Ashwin had trapped Shivarine Chanderpaul in the second innings of that Test match which happened 12 years back and he becomes the fifth bowler in world cricket to dismiss both summer and son in his career.
Ashwin had dismissed Chanderpaul in the second innings of the Test match that happened 12 years back. Ashwin who had 474 Test wickets before this match, bowled Tangenarine and dismissed him, making him the fifth bowler to dismiss both father and son.
Chanderpaul father-son is been thrice on the list of the father and son duo dismissal. The other two bowlers are Australian Fast Bowler Mitchell Starc and South Africa off-spinner Simon Harmer who dismissed the Chanderpauls.
It was due to the late retirement of Shivnarine Chanderpaul in 2015, while his son made his debut on the test last year.
On Nov 6, 2013, Ashwin gets Shivnarine Chanderpaul bowled in the 1st test match against West Indies. On July 12, 2023, Ashwin gets Tangerine Chanderpaul dismissing him in the 1st Test match on the West Indies tour. 10 years apart, Ashwin manages to dismiss both father and son.
Ashwin dismissed Shivnarine four times in his career across eight innings on India’s West Indies Tour between 2011 and 2023.
Ashwin joins 700 Wickets club
The first day of the Test match in Dominica between India and West Indies proved to be the day for Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The West Indian batters could not stand up to the bowling of Ashwin which broke through their resistance.
West Indies batsman proved to be no match for Ashwin’s spin on the second session of the day 1 match as he grabbed 4/ 49 which made the host’s situation very pathetic as they score 137 for eight.
Ashwin achieved a milestone after dismissing Alzarri Joseph for his third wicket. He joins the elite club for achieving 700 wickets in his career and becomes the third Indian after Anil Kumble (956) and Harbhajan Singh (711).
Later he dismissed Alick Athanaze who was in the debut of scoring 50 with three runs on reaching the milestone. Chanderpaul had made his 12 runs as part of the 31-run partnership in opening alongside Kraig Brathwaite. Brathwaite was taken out by Ashwin after he score 20 runs.
