Faruque Ahmed Appointed as New BCB President

After Nazmul Hassan stepped down as BCB president, the former national cricketer and chief selector Faruque Ahmed was elected as the new chairperson on August 21.

The BCB’s umpire committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed confirmed the development on Wednesday. The BCB is currently having a board meeting in the Ministry of Youth and Sports where the former president resigned while Ahmed was elected.

Nazmul Hassan is currently serving his fourth term as chief of the country’s cricket governing body and has fled the country with his wife to London ever since the violence began in the country, triggered by the student’s protests against the recently dissolved Sheikh Hasina government.

Farque has played seven ODIs for Bangladesh and has previously served as BCB chief selector for two terms 2003 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2016. He had resigned without completing his second term as chief selector. This is because he was not ready to accept the expansion of the three-member selection panel.

Bangladesh is currently taking on Pakistan in a two-match test series. Both the tests will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
