ENG vs SL 1st Test Playing 11: The England Cricket team will be facing Sri Lanka in a three-match test series starting on August 21. With a stunning victory in the test series against West Indies last month, England will be missing the leader Ben Stokes and opener Zak Crawley who were ruled out due to injuries.
Both England and Sri Lanka have announced their playing 11 for the first test before the toss. Ollie Pope has been handed the captaincy duties, while Sri Lanka has handed Milan Rathnayake his maiden test cap.
Despite being in good form, Brendon McCullum’s men will take on Sri Lankans carefully as they secured a 2-0 test series win against Bangladesh in March. Despite not having played in red-ball cricket, the Sri Lanka team is in good form, as they beat India in the ODI series last month.
“I was just waiting for an opportunity. And wherever that was, in the order, I was going to snap their hands off for it. So I’m just going to enjoy these few weeks and hopefully score some runs and put my name in the hat for future selection,” said Dan Lawrence.
