Dinesh Chandimal left Chattogram for Colombo on day 04 of the second test of the Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh 2024 due to a family emergency.
Dinesh Chandimal Withdraws from Second Test
Dinesh Chandimal has withdrawn from the ongoing second test with immediate effect. Accordingly, the player will return home immediately.
Sri Lanka Cricket, his teammates, and the coaching staff backed Dinesh Chandimal in his request due to his family emergency.
“The player will return home immediately. Sri Lanka Cricket, his teammates, and the coaching staff fully support Dinesh Chandimal at this moment of need and request that the public respect his and his family’s privacy,” a statement put out by the SLC said.
Dinesh Chandimal has been featured in 78 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 68 T20Is in his career and amassed 10, 327 runs across all formats.
Sri Lanka won the first match of the two-match test series with a 328 difference. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 531 runs in their first innings. Starting their innings, top-order batters had an impressive start, scoring 96 runs for the first wicket.
Nishan Madushka scored 57 runs while Dimuth Karunaratne scored 86 runs before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud. Kusal Mendis scored 93 runs while Dinesh Chandimal scored 59 runs in the match.
Dhananjaya de Silva scored 70 runs while Kamindu Mendis scored 92, helping the side to post a huge score of 531. In response to their 531 runs, Bangladesh scored 178 runs in the match whereas Zakir Hasan scored 54 runs in the match.
Asitha Fernando bagged four wickets in the match with an economy of 3.19 while Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Prabath Jayasuriya bagged two wickets each.
During their second innings, Sri Lanka scored 157 runs and Angelo Mathews was the only half-centurion during the second innings. Hasan Mahmud bagged four wickets while Khaled Ahmed bagged two wickets.
Bangladesh started their innings with Madmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan opened for Bangladesh scoring 19* and 11* runs in their second innings at the time of writing at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
