Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood who made his 50th T20I appearance in the Afghanistan vs Australia clash in T20 World Cup 2024 reveals he was unaware of this milestone.
Josh Hazlewood made his T20I debut in 2013 in a match against West Indies at The Gabba. His match against Afghanistan at St Vincent marked his 50th appearance in this format. Since his T20I debut, Josh played 50 T20Is and bagged 64 wickets at an economy of 7.55.
Australia was scheduled to face Afghanistan to play the 48th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on June 23 in Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent.
During the pre-match interview, Josh Hazlewood said “Didn’t know it was my 50th T20I. (On shifting formats) It’s just about adapting to the conditions. Sometimes, line and length works, other times it’s the yorkers and bouncers. It’s going to be a tough few days, we played on a different island just a couple of days ago and now we’re back, we’re island hopping at the moment. They’ve (Afghanistan) come a long way in the last 3-4 years, we found out in the 2023 WC. Their spinners are key”.
Australia maintains an extraordinary record in this edition by winning the five matches they played in this tournament so far. If Australia wins the game tonight, India will qualify for the semifinal round.
