The SA20 club Joburg Super Kings has announced that the New Zealand WK-Batter Devon Conway has joined the side for the upcoming edition which starts in January 2025. He will be the third pre-signing overseas player for the squad.
Conway is part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL and Texas Super Kings (TSK) in MLC and is set to play for Johannesburg in the upcoming season. This will mark a homecoming for the player in any tournament despite being born in a South African city.
“𝙆𝙞𝙬𝙞 / 𝙒𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙇𝙞𝙤𝙣. Welcome to the Wanderful pride, Devon!” Joburg-based franchise shared a video on X.

Devon Conway emerged as one of the top scores in the latest edition of MLC. The left-hander has amassed 293 runs in eight matches with a strike rate of 143.62 in three fifties. However, he missed IPL 2024 due to a thumb injury.
Conway has a brilliant T20 cricket, scoring 6028 in 187 matches with the help of two hundreds and 48 fifties.
Recently, Devon Conway signed a casual cricket over central contract with NZC to allow him to pick and choose international assignments to prioritize franchise cricket.
“The decision to move away from a central playing contract isn’t one I’ve taken lightly, but I believe it is the best for me and my family at this present time. Playing for the Black Caps is still the pinnacle for me and I’m hugely passionate about representing New Zealand and winning games of international cricket,” he added.
NZC Chief Executive Scott Weenink opened up on the importance of flexibility amid the growth of the T20 league around the world.
“In the current environment, it’s important to have flexibility in our system to navigate some of the challenges posed by franchise cricket.” Devon Conway has represented New Zealand in 20 tests, 32 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. He will be available for the Champions Trophy next year.
