After Jay Shah recently took over as ICC Chairman on December 01, the BCCI named Devajit Saikia as the board’s acting secretary. Saikia who hails from Assam is a former first-class cricketer and is currently the BCCI joint secretary.
Roger Binny has appointed Saikia as acting secretary in a stop-gap arrangement till a permanent secretary is appointed under BCCI rules and regulations.
“I am deeply grateful to the people of Assam and the players who have stood beside me and supported me throughout this journey,” said Devajit Saikia.
He also extended special thanks to BCCI president Roger Binny and outgoing secretary for entrusting him with the responsibility.
“I sincerely thank Jay Shah and Roger Binny for their faith in me. Their trust inspires me to take this role with utmost dedication and commitment,” Saikia added.

His appointment is being celebrated across Assam with many hailing it as a testament to his contributions to cricket administration and the recognition of Assam’s growing role in Indian cricket.
“The president shall in the event of vacancy or indisposition shall delegate the functions to another office bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up or indisposition ceases.
“Accordingly, I delegate the functions of secretary to you till the post is filled up by processes laid down as per BCCI rules and regulations. I am confident you will perform the duties to the best of your abilities and with aplomb,” Binny wrote to Saikia.
It is understood that Saikia will continue in this role till September next year before appointing the full time secretary.
ACA president Taranga Gogoi, secretary Tridib Konwar and all members of the Apex Council expressed their elation at this remarkable milestone.
“His elevation to this prestigious position is a proud moment not only for Assam but also for the cricketing fraternity of the Northeast,” they stated.
The Guwahati Sports Association also hailed Saikia’s elevation in cricket administration. A special ceremony was organised at the GSA office, where President Paresh Chandra Das and other office bearers gathered to honor Saikia.
Saikia also holds the position of secretary of the GSA, further underscoring his pivotal role in regional cricket development.
