The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced that Delhi Premier League (DPL) will start in the second half of August.
The inaugural edition of the DPL will have both men’s and women’s matches will be organized at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The franchise auction for the league was held on Sunday and resulted in the sale of six men’s teams for a total amount of INR 49.65 Crore.
The top four bidders in the men’s franchise auction automatically required the women’s teams’ possessions, further promoting gender equality in the league.
“I am delighted to announce the Delhi Premier League Season 1 with a vision to provide equal opportunity for both male and female cricketers,” DDCA president Rohan Jaitely said.
“The vision of DDCA has always been to nurture talent who can shine for their state team and country, and the Delhi Premier League is a significant step taken by the DDCA in that direction,” he added.
The maiden season of DPL will feature 40 matches in the men’s category while 7 matches will be played in the women’s category.
The league will be promising and provide a significant boost to the local cricket. The T20 league will highlight local and international talents.
Mr. Bimal Julka, a retired IAS officer will bring his administrative experience to the event. Under his leadership, the DPL aims to set new standards in cricket leagues, focusing on local talents and promoting equality in both men’s and women’s cricket.
Franchises names, teams, fixtures, and broadcast details for the league will be announced in the upcoming days by the Delhi and District Cricket Associaton.
