Sydney Thunder captain David Warner had a peculiar experience during the team’s BBL 2024-25 clash against Hobart Hurricanes on January 10.

He broke his bat while attempting a shot and a piece of bat struck him on the helmet. The incident took place on the first ball of the fourth ball of the over from Riley Meredith.

He bowled a full delivery around the off-stump line which David smacked straight to mid-on. While Warner did not get any runs of the shot, his bat broke and hit him on the head.

“David Warner’s bat broke and he’s hit himself in the head with it (laughing emoji),” BBL captioned the clip.

Eventually Warner was given a new bat and the match continued with the opening batsman proving to the key pillar of the Thunder’s innings.

The opening partner Sam Konstas who had an impressive fifty during his maiden test apppearacne, was later sent out in the same over when Warner’s bat broke. Meredith bowled a short delivery. Konstas tried to hit it past the keeper but the ball hit his gloves and went stright to the wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

The 38 year old smashed an unbeaten 88 runs during 66 deliveries helping the side to score 164 runs by the end of 20 overs. With team struggled with 53/2 after eight overs. Riley Meredith picked two wickets each while Billy Stanlake, Chris Jordan and Nikhil Chaudhary bagged a wickets each.
