The Cricket West Indies has announced that seven promising West Indies cricketers will undergo an intense training camp at CSK Academy.
The training camp will undergo a two-week camp starting on December 01 accompanied by West Indies Academy head coach Ramesh Subasinghe and assistant Rohan Nurse, the group will depart for India on November 29.
Among the selected players three contracted franchise players Kirk McKenzie, Matthew Naidu and kevin Wickham along with current and former West Indies Academy players Teddy Bishop, Jewel Andrews, and former WI U-19 player Jordan Johnson and Ackemm Auguste.
“CWI is committed to providing opportunities for our emerging players in overseas conditions.”
“The Chennai Academy will host these seven batsmen and aim to equip them with skills and experience in navigating spinning conditions,” said Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe.
“Our coaches will be on hand to ensure that the learnings in the period can be consolidated and extended to other players in the region through the academy.”
Meanwhile CSK Academy director Sriram Krishnamurthy will be working alongside experienced coaches. The initiative draws inspiration from similar successful programmes, including the recent training camps undertaken by the New Zealand Test team ahead of their successful tour of India.
This marks first time CWI has sent academy players overseas for training, reflecting a significant investment in the future of West Indies cricket.
Recently, kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra who joined CSK once again in the IPL mega auction trained at the Academy ahead of New Zealand‘s three match test series against India which Kiwis secured 0-3 clean sweep.
