The Defending BBL champions Brisbane Heat has secured Colin Munro on a two-year contract ahead of the Overseas draft.

Colin Munro Returns to Brisbane Heat on Multi-Year Contract

The former New Zealand batter Colin Munro has returned to BBL Franchise Brisbane Head after signing a contract until 2026. The 37-year-old is set to play his third season for Brisbane and becomes the fourth player to sign a multi-year contract.

The left-handed batter has made his international retirement in May and is expected to be available for all the matches in the tournament.

Munro has amassed 10961 runs in 428 T20s matches with a strike rate 141.25. In January 2018, he held a record for the first player to score three T20I centuries, during the match against West Indies. He also held the record of the fastest to 100 T20I sixes regarding balls.

Munro played for Perth Scorchers in the 2021-22 season where the franchise claimed the title. Before that, he played two seasons for the Heat and scored 502 runs. In both seasons he left early to join the UAE-based ILT20 competition where he played for Desert Vipers.

But the new deal will ensure Munro to play all the BBL matches including the finals. “It was pretty poignant being away and watching the boys go one better to win the title, after going through the disappointment of the previous season when we got beaten at the death in the final,” Munro said.

“It’s a strong squad again and I’m looking forward to being part of what we can build together. There are always opportunities to get better and as a group, we should be excited about the new goals we will pursue this summer.”

He said it feels like home when playing for Brisbane. “Playing at a packed Gabba again, especially in front of family and friends, is such a highlight and the way the fans have embraced the team in the past few seasons has been brilliant to experience,” he said.

The Heat will need two more overseas players to complement Munro in September’s BBL|14.

On the other hand, Former Brisbane Star Sam Billings has joined Sydney Thunder for next season while Josh Brown will join Melbourne Renegades. Munro will lead a strong Heat line-up alongside Australia’s Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw. Brisbane Heat will have a new coach next season with Johan Botha replacing Wade Seccombe.
