England pacer Chris Woakes, who is a regular with the Test team but has not been part of England’s T20 squad since 2015, is hoping to use his stint with the Delhi Capitals to make a comeback for the side ahead of the T20WC.

Chris Woakes said that he is hoping to work on his death bowling and variations and showcase the England team management what he can do with his skills in the premier ICC event.
“I don’t want to rule out the T20 World Cup at all, I still see myself as a three-format cricketer. I’m looking to work on my variations, death bowling and explore some power-hitting options. Hopefully, I can give Morgs (captain Eoin Morgan) and England a reminder of what I can do,” Woakes told ‘The Guardian’.
Want to do well for Delhi Capitals, says Woakes
This will be the England fast bowler’s third stint at the Indian Premier League after having played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past and he is eager to play for last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals this time around.
“Delhi have been loyal to me and I want to repay that. It’s my third season in the IPL overall and I have always come back a better cricketer,” said Woakes.
Speaking about the possibility of missing a few Test matches against New Zealand as they will clash with the IPL 2021 play-offs, Woakes said that he will speak to the coach Ricky Ponting and the management and will see if he can go back to England if he is not in the reckoning for the matches.
“If I’m not in the Delhi XI, I’ll speak to Ricky (Ponting) and the powers-that-be. Of course I want to play at Lord’s, my record there speaks for itself. But those Tests were arranged late.
“England want us to broaden our horizons in the IPL and, at this stage of my career, these opportunities won’t keep coming up. If it means missing a Test, that unfortunately might be the case,” he added.
England have made it clear that with the T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in India in October-November this year, they want their players to take part in the IPL 2021 and get valuable experience ahead of the key ICC event.
