Chamari Athapaththu Named as ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2024

The Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu was named as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2024. She overcame India’s star openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma after leading the side to the maiden Women’s Asia Cup 2024 title after defeating seven-time champion India last month.

Chamari has registered her name for the third time in the ICC Player of the Month awards category and also become the second most successful cricketer in the Women’s Player of the Month to do so.

“I am happy and honored to have been chosen as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month’ for the third time and it is heartening to see such reckoning for my efforts, achieved with the support of my teammates and coaches, being continuously recognized by the cricketing world,” she said.

“I believe these recognitions will send a positive message to thousands of girls who are already playing cricket in my country and also elsewhere and want to play for their country; that commitment and dedication for the game will one day pay off.”

Chamari Athapaththu’s command in recent times over the last 12 months. Sri Lanka has set several milestones under several milestones under her leadership first every T20I series win against England and South Africa.

She scored 304 runs at a strike rate of 146.85 helped her side to secure the Player of the Tournament award. Meanwhile, Gus Atkinson was named as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2024.

He outmatched Washington Sundar and Charlie Chassell after an impressive display in the West Indies tour of England last month.
