With a crucial encounter against Australia set to stage in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on October 08, the New Zealand captain Sophie Devine highlighted the importance of their recent victory over India calling it a significant step to lift the tournament title.
New Zealand secured a 58-run victory over India in their tournament opener and will be high on confidence in that result heading into the Australia contest.
Sophie Devine hit an excellent half-century in that victory, with pacers Rosemary Mair and Lea Tahuhu combined to take seven wickets in an eye-catching display with the ball.
The win over India was in Dubai and the condition in Sharjah might suit slow conditions if going on previous results at the ground this tournament, although Australia pacer Megan Schutt claimed a three-wicket haul against Sri Lanka.

Australia’s batting depth might give an upper hand in the clash, although another tight contest is almost ensured.
After suffering a defeat against Australia in a T20I series, New Zealand is looking for a win in the upcoming clash.
“We just want to give absolutely everything to this jersey, to this team and hopefully we can go deep in this tournament, and tonight’s game (win over India) is certainly one step on that journey, But we know, as I said, that there’s still a long way to go in this tournament,” said Sophie Devine.
Meanwhile, Australian right-arm seamer Megan Schut asserted that the match against the white ferns would be a ‘great match’.
“It’ll be a great match (against New Zealand). We’ve just come off a series against them in Australian conditions so it’ll be an even tougher match-up here,” said Megan Schutt.
Coming to the tournament, the 10th match of the Women’s T20WC 2024 between Australia and New Zealand women will be played on October 08 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
