The Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out for the rest of the England tour due to a back injury and remains doubtful for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Cricket Australia has revealed that the full extent of Green’s injury will be determined after an assessment upon his arrival in Perth. The 25-year-old reported soreness after the 3rd ODI against England in Chester-le-Street, where he whooped 2 wickets for 45 and amassed 45 with the bat.
According to Cricket.com.au, a spokesperson from the Australian men’s team said the extent of the injury and a timeline for his return “wouldn’t be known until the player arrives home in Perth for further assessment.”

Initially, scans revealed a back injury, prompting his return to home ahead of the high-profile encounter against India. He was not part of the second ODI and was an absentee in the delayed fourth ODI.
Cameron Green has a history of back issues including a street fracture which prevented him from bowling during the 2019-20 domestic season. He has to race against time with his injury recovery ahead of the opening test against India starting in the second half of November.
Being a key all-rounder makes him an integral part of Australia’s campaign in the marquee series. His absence will make a significant blow to Australia especially as they prepare to take on India, currently the top-ranked side in the WTC standings.
The injury setback raises questions about the workload management of the talented youngster. Green had a busy schedule, having bowled in six consecutive matches on Australia’s UK tour.
With India aiming for a third successive win on Australian soil, Green’s recovery will be monitored in the upcoming months.
India and Australia have secured top and second position in the WTC points table and their five-match series could bring a certain movement in the points table.
The five-match test series will kickstart on November 22 while the second test will be played on a day-night format under the stadium lights starting on December 06.
The third test will be played in the Gabba between December 14-18 and the fourth test will be played between December 26-30 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The fifth and final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7 will give a promising dramatic conclusion for the exciting contest.
Coming to the ongoing England tour, The final match of Australia’s England tour will be played on September 29 at Seat Unique Stadium.
