Australia has named a new set of ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming Scotland and England tours in September. The 20-year-old Connolly has raced into the T20 squad for the England tour while Jake Fraser McGurk has been named in both squads. David Warner has retired and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has been excluded, with selectors looking at the future.

Mitchell Marsh will lead both T20I and ODI squads with Pat Cummins has been rested as a part of long-term load management and will sort preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025.

Conolly, known for his finishing style in crucial death over conditions, has captained the U-19 Australia team to the 2022 cricket World Cup.

Australia Chief Selector George Bailey believes the tour will be a perfect option for new players into the setup.

“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” national selector George Bailey said.

“We are particularly pleased to offer Cooper his first opportunity in the T20 squad having introduced the likes of Jake, Spencer, Xavier, and Aaron in the past 12 months. They are exciting prospects to join the likes of Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, and Josh Inglis in the white-ball setup.

“With the Champions Trophy on our doorstep early next year, the white-ball series against Pakistan leading into the summer and a huge home Test series against India, there has been a lot of planning invested into these next six months.

“That has included gradual integration of new players into our white-ball squads who have earned international opportunities via excellent form in Big Bash or state cricket.”

The Scotland tour will start with a T20I series on September 05 and the series against England will start on September 12.
