After being sidelined for almost 10 months, Jasprit Bumrah is set to return to the Indian cricket team, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah says.
Bumrah set to return for Ireland Series
BCCI secretary Jay Shah hinted about Jasprit Bumrah’s return to international cricket next month. Bumrah is expected to be included in India’s squad for the T20I series against Ireland.
The reports about Bumrah’s comeback to the international team emerged yesterday right after Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma gave an update about the player’s return ahead of the 1st ODI on the West Indies tour.
The 1st ODI of India’s West Indies tour 2023 concluded with the victory of India at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. Following Rohit’s statement regarding Bumrah’s return, BCCI management hints that Bumrah might return to the international team during the upcoming India tour of Ireland.
After being sidelined for 10 months due to his injury, he has shown a remarkable recovery at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. After discussions with NCA, BCCI had given a positive update on Bumrah’s bowling at practice matches. He’s been doing his rehab at NCA post-surgery to cure his lower back stress fracture.
It is said to be the pacer is now bowling at full intensity and will participate in practice matches to regain his fitness. Indian team is currently featuring multi-format series against West Indies and the WI tour will be concluded with 5 T20I series on August 13.
The Indian team will be heading to face Ireland in a three-match T20I series which starts on August 18. Hardik Pandya is set to lead the T20I series against West Indies and will be missing the T20I series against Ireland, along with other senior players.
India will be participating in Asia Cup 2023, on August 30. Hence the senior key players are rested for the tournament to manage their workload as they are heading up for the big event in India.
Apart from the Ireland tour, Bumrah is expected to remain consistent in team selection. He continued by saying Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit and will be expected to include in India’s squad for Ireland series.
“Bumrah is totally fit and he may go to Ireland. There will be consistency in selections apart from Ireland tour,” Jay Shah told reporters during a media conference on Thursday.
According to a report from PTI, Shah also informed that Hardik Pandya will be provided with rest following the West Indies tour, which indicates the plan for selecting him as the captain for the upcoming series.

Bumrah has captained team India in a rescheduled Test match against England in July 2022, which could be a strong reason for being a competitor with Hardik Pandya to lead the T20I team during the Ireland tour.
