West Indies cricket team lifted the ODI series trophy of the England tour of West Indies 2024 by winning the three-match series by 2-1. The tour consists of three ODIs and five T20Is.
The hosts won the first match of the series by 8 wickets(DLS method) and made a lead while England won the second game and levelled the series. After chasing the 300-plus target in the second game, England was expected to win the third and final ODI at Barbados.
But the West Indies players who are well known for their power-packed performance once again proved their worth by showcasing an all-round performance in the third ODI.
Speaking of the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Phil Salt and Will Jacks opened the inning for England.
West Indies bowlers bowled some fierce deliveries and dismantled England’s top order as the visitors lost their top four wickets for 24 runs. Though England lost early wickets, Phil Salt made a stand on the other end and started to build a partnership with Sam Curran.
The duo made a 70-run stand and threatened the hosts. Roston Chase in the 26th over dismissed Sam Curran for 40 and broke the well-settled partnership. But the Windies bowlers struggled to replicate their first-half performance in the latter of the inning as England lower-order batters scored crucial runs for the team.
With Mousley’s half-century and Archer’s 17 balls 38 runs, England scored 263 runs for eight wickets loss at the end of 50 overs.
Unlike the West Indies, England failed to kickstart their bowling innings with flying colours. Jamie Overton bagged the first wicket by dismissing Evin Lewis for 19 runs, while Windies scored 42 runs in seven overs.
Brandon King and Keacy Carty made a 209-run stand for the second wicket and paved the way for the team’s victory. The duo scored a century each and reached the target with seven overs left to bowl.
With the victory West Indies won the do-or-die match and lifted the series trophy after beating England by 2-1. The first T20I match of the series will be played on November 9 in Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
