Jaiswal on playing with Virat Kohli
Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes a piece of sensation following his impressive century in his Test debut against West Indies. During the 1st Test of India tour of West Indies 2023, Indian openers, Jaiswal and Rohit made a 229 runs partnership and broke a 2-decade record and laid a strong foundation for the Indian cricket team.
With an aggressive bowling attack, India won the 1st test by an innings and 141 runs. Jaiswal went on to bag the Player of the Match award for his stunning 171 runs.
While everyone expects a replica of the same in the 2nd Test vs WI, Jaiswal failed and scored 57 runs off 74 balls and was dismissed on Holders’ delivery. Following his dismissal, Jaiswal said he felt blessed to play along with Virat Kohli.
“It is amazing to see him bat. What can I say? He is a legend. I am blessed to play with him. There are a lot of things to learn from him be it cricket or outside of it. I try to pick his mind,” Jaiswal told reporters after the day’s play.
The young southpaw, who scored a century in his debut feels it is a luxury that he can have a conversation with Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“Everyone has there own way to explaining things. They all have experience. I listen to all of their advice very carefully. When they are talking there are few thoughts behind it. Getting information, small small other stuffs, it’s just incredible,” he said.
West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian openers Jaiswal and Rohit scored 139 runs for the 1st wicket. Holder broke the well-settled partnership by dismissing Jaiswal fir 57 runs. India then lost a couple of 2 quick wickets in the form of Gill(10) and Rahane(8).
But Virat and Jadeja made a 100 runs stand and moved India’s score to 288 for 4 wickets loss at the end of Day 1. Notably, Virat Kohli is just 13 runs away from registering his 29th Test hundred.
“Of course, I am disappointed. It happens in cricket. I just need to keep learning and keep thinking that how i can do better when I come to bat next,” he said.
On missing out on another century, Jaiswal said: “I feel whenever I bat I try to make sure that how long I can bat and of course, there is a disappointment when I get out. I need to just keep learning. I always want to do well for the team. I go out there with the same mindset. It is a pleasure to go out there and play for your country.”
Jaiswal and Rohit had a good partnership in both tests and laid a good platform for India. The youngster explains why he enjoys batting with Rohit Sharma.
“It’s really nice to bat with Rohit bhaiya. We always talk about the situation, and how we can go forward, of course, we have our plans. It was really amazing to bat with him,” he said.
