“Bit baffled by that decision”, Abhinav Mukund Slams Hardik Pandya

India has been struggling for recording a win in the ongoing 5-match T20I series on the West Indies tour 2023.

Chahal not bowled 4th over in 2nd T20I

India had lost another match in the T20I series of the West Indies tour 2023 going 0-2 down the series by two wickets. With this loss, the Hardik Pandya-led Indian side has gone down two matches on the five-series test.

India scored 152 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs, where Tilak Varma made his maiden half-century in his international match. West Indies comfortably chased down the target in 18.5 overs where Nicholas Pooran scored 67 runs off 40 balls.

Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra criticized Hardik for not giving the fourth over for Chahal. The leg-Spinner had impressive play as he scored two wickets giving 19 runs in three overs.

“Chahal was the best Indian spinner…his 3rd over (16th over) spun the match in India’s favor. Hetmeyer…Holder was dismissed by Chahal. Shepherd runout. He should’ve bowled the fourth over…ideally, the 18th over…if not the 18th…definitely 19th. IMHO,” tweeted Chopra.

Former Batter Abhinav Mukund also slammed India’s captain for Chahal not bowling the fourth over. He said, “I can’t get an explanation for it because 10 times out of 10 you would have gone with another over from Chahal and tried to close out the game there, especially with Alzarri Joseph there.

I understand the left-hander is still there, but you got Hetmyer out in the previous over, bowling a full one. You have the bigger boundary to deal with.”

“I was just a bit baffled by that decision to go back to Arshdeep because he is your strike bowler. If you wanted to bowl him, you could have had him bowl the 19th, left the last over to Mukesh or even brought Arshdeep for the final over, depending on the number of runs,” he added.

The second T20I match had some interesting incidents happen where Ishan Kishan tried to dismiss Rovman Powell in a controversial manner on the 2nd T20I match on India’s West Indies tour 2023. He tried to outsmart Rovman Powell from behind the stumps but ended up waiting for a long time in Guyana.

yuzvendra chahalOn the 7th over of the match, Ravi Bishnoi bowled a wide off-leg stump but Kishan collected it tactically. He held his position and waited for the batter to lift his leg so that he can dismiss him.

But it was too late as Rovman Powell already entered the crease thus the plan for dismissing him failed. Even though Ishan Kishan didn’t break the law but his actions didn’t go down well with some fans, who are now trolling him.

The third T20I game has been scheduled on August 8. It would be interesting to see if India can mount a comeback to reverse sweep West Indies.
