Ben Stokes injured in Hundred match; doubtful for Sri Lanka Tests

England’s Test captain Ben Stokes is on the verge of missing the upcoming Sri Lanka Test series after sustaining a hamstring injury during a match in the Hundred 2024 competition.

While playing for the Superchargers against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford on Sunday, Stokes pulled up an injury after running a single. Following the injury, he was forced to retire hurt.

With the assistance of the support staff, Ben Stokes walked off the field and was later spotted moving around with the help of crutches after the game.

“Doesn’t look great unfortunately, will get a scan tomorrow and see how it is,” Brook said at the end of the match.

Stokes who returned to The Hundreds completion after a gap of three years but failed to pick up a wicket with figures of 15-6-29-0. Ben Stokes seems to attained his full fitness this summer after nursing his knee injury that limited his ability to bowl.

After his knee surgery, Stokes opted out of IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024 to assist with his recovery. Following his return, Stokes led England to a 3-0 series victory over the West Indies, taking five wickets at 34.20 in three Tests.

Ben Stokes’s left hamstring injury adds concern over his participation in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka set to kick start on August 21. A total of three Tests were scheduled to be played during the Sri Lanka tour of England 2024.

The first Test match of the series will kick start on August 21 in Manchester while the second and third will be played at Lord’s and Kennington Oval.

The unavailability of Ben Stokes will add pressure on England as they are already missing the services of their premier opener, Zak Crawley, who fractured his finger during the third Test against the West Indies.
