BCCI to make Decision on Impact Player Rule in SMAT 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has postponed its decision on the impact rule for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 competition. BCCI has stated that if the rule should be invented, the 12th member of the squad will be entitled to a full match fee.

BCCI has added to provide details on the playing conditions for the domestic men’s T20 championship, including the impact player rule at a later date. The decision is expected to be made in a couple of days.

In the meanwhile, the BCCI has advised the states about allocating the match fees. “With regards to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, if a team decides to use the ‘Impact Player’ during the match, he will be eligible for 100 percent match fees over and above the playing XI,” said BCCI.

Recently, BCCI discussed with the IPL owner’s franchise about the retentions, Impact Player Rule, and salary cap on July 31. However, the decision of the Impact rule will lay in the hands of Jay Shah, who has previously approved the playing conditions for all other competitions, both men’s and women’s.

The rule has created a division within the cricket community and among decision-makers in the country. Some fans and enthusiasts support the rule, while others argue that it will affect the development of all-rounders.

The implementation of the rule in SMAT could potentially influence the adoption of the Impact Player Rule in the IPL as well. “Men’s T20 Playing Conditions will be shared shortly,” the Indian board mail, sharing the playing conditions of Men’s Multi-Day, Men’s One Day, Women’s One Day, Women’s T20, and Women’s U-15.

The Indian Cricket Board has said that if an Indian player is deputed to the state team by the national selectors, he or she will be entitled to a match fee based on his/her status as either a playing or non-playing member of the squad.

“(I) 15 players will be eligible for Match fees (Playing XI will be eligible for 100 percent while the remaining 4 will be entitled for 50 percent). (II) In case, where a Team India cricketer is deputed by the BCCI to participate in domestic cricket, he or she will be eligible for a match fee over and above the 15 players based on his Playing XI and non-playing XI status in the matches.”
