The BCCI is set to restrict state associations from directly engaging in tie-ups with foreign boards to organize training camps and competitions.

The BCCI is set to make it mandatory to route all the proposals via the parent body. The decision will be taken in the council meeting on March 18.

BCCI made this decision after Delhi and Puducherry boards had discussions with foreign boards, mainly the associating nations, for hosting them on exposure tours.

“State units can surely partner with foreign boards for cricket-related activities but those agreements have to be facilitated by the BCCI as it is the parent body. All proposals must go through BCCI,” said a BCCI source.

In the upcoming Council meeting, there will be a discussion on “state cricket associations collaborating with foreign boards for organizing cricket.” Then BCCI will take matters into its own hands.

Nepal is set to tour India for an exposure trip ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean in June. The officials from the Nepal Cricket Association had a meeting with BCCI secretary Jay Shah last month.

BCCI has helped associate nations in the past. Afghanistan cricket has made India their home base for some period in the pre-COVID era, using facilities in Dehradun and Noida for training and competition.

Recently Japan has also signed an MOU with Sri Lanka cricket.

Associate nations reaching out to full members is not only restricted to India, even Sri Lanka Cricket signed an MOU with the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) to help cricket in Japan with collaborations, exchanges, and providing expertise of the game.
