The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the reason for Ishan Kishan’s absence from the Duleep Trophy 2024.
The cricket board has ruled out Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna for the opening round of the tournament which marks the beginning of the red-ball season in domestic cricket.
During the pre-season invitational tournament, the wk-batter is looking for a comeback to the Indian test since withdrawing from the South Africa Test series in December 2023. He also missed the BCCI central contracts in February after missing the Ranji Trophy and picked up an injury as revealed by BCCI.
“Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a swift recovery,” said BCCI.
Sanju Samson who has been not part of the 61 players for the opening round of the Duleep Trophy has been announced as Ishan’s replacement in the India D Squad.
India star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out for the first round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy to nurse his hand injury. He had made his intention clear of adding his Test appearance since making his debut in the format in the home series against Australia in February 2023.
The India T20I skipper featured in only one match for Mumbai Cricket Association against TNCA Xl in Coimbatore.
The BCCI medical team is currently assessing his injury and a further assessment next week will determine his availability for the second round.
Meanwhile Prasidh Krishna has not completed rehab following his surgery for his left Quadriceps and will miss the Duleep Trophy’s first round game. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play and will be available for selection.
