BCCI’s secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the Indian jersey will feature host Pakistan’s names during the Champions Trophy and denied the rumours that BCCI wanted Pakistan’s name to be removed from the Champions Trophy logo for their jersey.
Saikia clarified that the Indian team and board will adhere to the International Cricket Council (ICC) directive during the tournament. Pakistan has the hosting rights for the tournament and will have their name beneath the Champions Trophy 2025 logo.
However, Pakistan will not play all of their matches at home and have to travel to Dubai to play atleast one of their matches.
“BCCI’s stand is loud and clear: whatever guidelines the ICC sets for the Champions Trophy 2025, including those regarding the jersey logo, we will follow. There was never any intention to violate any such guidelines.”
“So, whatever was going on in the media, I have seen it. I don’t know where they got that information from. But the BCCI has no reason to violate or ignore any of the guidelines.”
“BCCI will follow the dress code and the logo for the Champions Trophy 2025 as formulated by the ICC,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Wednesday.
BCCI’s secretary’s latest remarks dismiss the rumours that India had filed an objection to the official logo since the Indian team will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
According to ICC rules, India would be violating dress code if they refuse to wear the official logo with host pakistan’s name on jersey. Even if the tournaments is hosted overseas, it is mandatory for the participating teams to have host nation’s name on jersey.
As per Pakistan’s Champions Trophy schedule, the hosts will begin their campaign with playing their first match against New Zealand on February 19 at National Stadium Karachi.
If India qualify for the semi-final and the final, two additional matches will be played in the Dubai International Stadium.
