BCCI Apex Council Meeting: The 14th Apex Council Meeting is scheduled to take place on July 7 in Mumbai.
BCCI Apex Council Meeting
As per the reports, Indian men’s and women’s teams’ participation in the upcoming Asian Games will be one of the important matters on the agenda of the meeting. The Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.
The meeting is also expected to discuss sponsorship and media rights. Apart from these two, BCCI is set to discuss various important topics during the meeting. Check out the topic set to be discussed during the BCCI Apex Council Meeting 2023:
- Participation of retired players in overseas leagues
BCCI is set to review retired players’ participation in Overseas T20 Leagues. As per BCCI’s current policy, a BCCI-registered player is allowed to compete in overseas T20 leagues only after he retires from international cricket and domestic cricket, including IPL.
Official ANNOUNCEMENT: BCCI will formulate a policy for its players (including retired players) with respect to their participation in overseas T20 leagues.
- Participation of the Indian team in Asian games
As the dates of the Asian Games 2023 clashes with the ICC World Cup 2023, BCCI decides to send the India B team under Shikhar Dhawan to feature in the Asia Games 2023. BCCI also plans to send the main women’s team along with the Men’s B team side to Hangzhou for the mega event.
Official ANNOUNCEMENT: BCCI will send both men’s and women’s teams to the Asian Games scheduled to be held in September 2023 at Hangzhou, China. However, considering the overlap of schedule of the Asian Games with ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, BCCI will select from the players not participating in the World Cup to play in the Asian Games.
- Playing conditions in SMAT with impact player rule
BCCI plans to update the Impact Player rules in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by incorporating clauses similar to those in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Initially, in the SMAT, an Impact Player could only be chosen before the 16th over, unlike the IPL where there were no restrictions. Additionally, the BCCI intends to allow teams to exchange their team sheets after the toss, similar to the IPL.
Official ANNOUNCEMENT: BCCI shall continue with the concept of Impact Player in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the next season with two variations from the previous season and the Indian Premier League.
-
-
-
- The teams will have to select their playing XI along with 4 substitute players before the toss.
- The teams can use the Impact Player at any time during the match. In the previous season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a team could only use the Impact Player before the 14th over of an innings.

- Media & Sponsorship rights
After Bjyu’s exit as merchandise sponsor, team India is in search of a jersey sponsor and moreover, the board is also without a broadcaster for the home season. Notably, India played their WTC 2021-23 final game against Australia in Kia Oval, London earlier this month without any sponsor’s logo.
- Renovation of stadiums
To manage the huge crowd, BCCI decides to renovate the 2023 World Cup stadiums as per their needs. BCCI decided to grant INR 50 crores for each stadium that was shortlisted to host the grand event in October – November.
Official ANNOUNCEMENT: BCCI shall work towards the upgradation of stadiums in the country in two phases:
-
-
-
- The first phase will deal with the upgradation of the venues of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, work for which shall be completed before the commencement of the World Cup.
- The second phase will involve the upgradation of the rest of the venues.
-
-
- Tour package for World Cup
Apart from Indian fans, cricket fans from all around the World will travel to India to watch the grand ICC World Cup 2023 at the respective venues. To accommodate them, BCCI set to launch various attractive tour packages.
