Bangladesh is planning to reschedule the Zimbabwe Test series at home to get some preparation time for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe is scheduled to play two match test series and a 5 match T20I series in Bangladesh starting in April. On this occasion, the Bangladesh board thinks that it would be better to concentrate on the T20I format for the upcoming ICC event.

A BCB official has confirmed that the final decision will be revealed in the upcoming days.

“It is not a fact that we are going to abandon the two Tests against Zimbabwe and certainly we will play the two Tests (against Zimbabwe) but when we will play that Test is something we need to decide,” said BCB chairman Jalal Yunus on Tuesday.

Recently, the side has completed a three-match ODI and T20I series in Bangladesh’s New Zealand tour 2023. With Bangladesh slated to play a home series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, they are planning to reschedule the Zimbabwe test series.

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is expected to arrive on January 20 and BCB will plan for the mega event.

“BCB is mulling with the idea of rescheduling the Tests as that will give them some extra time to prepare for the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is expected to arrive on January 20 and following his arrival, BCB will chalk plans for the mega event,” the report said.

It is clear that if the Test series against Zimbabwe is rescheduled, the board can send their team to the USA to adapt to conditions for the T20 World Cup.

This will be the second time Bangladesh to play in the USA ground after their game against West Indies in 2018 at Florida.

Recently, the International Cricket Council released the 2024 T20 World Cup schedule which is co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

The first match will be played between co-host USA and Canada in Dallas on June 01.

Bangladesh will be playing their first 2024 T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka on June 08 at Grand Prairie Stadium.
