BCB Director Jalal Yunus Resigns Following Change in Government

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s opening chairman Jalal Yunus has resigned from his position with immediate effect on August 19. The resignation comes amid the change in government following the protests from students that drove out the Awami League Government on August 05.

He is the first director to step down from the board that has been under severe scrutiny. “I have resigned from the board for the interest of cricket,” Jalal said.

On the other hand, BCB president Nazmul Hasan has also expressed his desire to resign in the interest of supporting cricket and cooperating with the board. After the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India, the country’s law and order deteriorated greatly. Later the situation improved a lot with the help of student society and others.

ICC has been monitoring the situation in Bangladesh who are scheduled to host the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in October. However, the protests and domestic violence have made ICC consider other options for hosting the tournament.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh requested the ICC to hold the decision for a little longer as they don’t want the tournament to go out of the country. BCB also wrote a letter to the Bangladesh Army General relating to providing security assistance for the event.

The law and order situation in the country is improving as 13 advisers of the interim government under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Men’s team is in Pakistan to play a match test series starting this week. With the second match of the test series has been rescheduled from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to construction works ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, the first test will begin on August 21 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
