Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali praised the Indian team’s management following their T20I series win against Bangladesh as India handed an 86-run defeat to Bangladesh on October 09.
Basit pointed out that India succeeded despite resting the top order batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for the series. He suggested that Pakistan should learn from their neighbours as Pakistan hesitates to rest their players.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said, “The thought process is very important, which is missing in Pakistani cricket. India rested Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal but nobody rests in our team. So, please learn something from India.”
During the match, India batted first and posted a total of 221 runs. Despite the failure of the top-order batting, India was able to score a huge total at Arun Jaitley. Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh stitched a 108-run partnership which helped the side greatly.
Nitish Reddy scored 74 runs off 34 deliveries Rinku Singh scored 53 runs off 29 deliveries, while Hardik Pandya scored 32 run cameo off 19 balls.
Taskin Ahmed picked up two wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Meanwhile, Mahmudullah scored 41 runs in Bangladesh’s 135 runs which they scored in 20 overs.
Basit Ali lauded the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and recalled the coach backing youngsters like Rinku Singh and Nitish Reddy could bring in positive results.
He spoke about Nitish and Rinku’s power-hitting and batting exploits and even compared the latter to Australia’s white-ball legend Michael Bevan.
“The kind of sixes that Nitish hit should be called ‘Athhe’ and not sixes. And then Rinku Singh is Michael Bevan after all. Gautam Gambhir’s thinking has been a success. I am not saying that he will win the World Cup straight away. Even if he flops, Gautam won’t stop backing him because they pick players and make them and this is the best example of that.”
Leading the series 2-0, the third and final T20I match of the series between India and Pakistan will be played on October 12 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
