Basit Ali Reveals Reason on Gary Kirsten’s Exit as Pakistan Head Coach

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has revealed the reason for Gary Kirsten’s exit saying that he wasn’t happy with PCB’s decision to appoint Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan’s white ball captain.

Pakistan team’s recent success against England at home was short-lived as the board is involved in yet another controversy.

The former India national team coach who was appointed as Pakistan’s white ball coach in April 2024, resigned from his position just months after his appointment.

Kirsten was the head coach of the Indian cricket team during the 2011 ODI World Cup title and was roped in by PCB ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Former cricketer Basi Ali has made serious allegations against the Pakistan cricket board saying that Kirsten’s departure was due to his disagreement with the board’s decision.

“Mohsin Naqvi has come with a lot of power. The coaches, selectors and managers are being removed. Earlier, the chairman used to be changed from time to time. Now, whoever raises their voice will be sidelined,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

It is reported that Kirsten has preferred a different candidate to lead the team. “The story started when Mohammad Rizwan was named Pakistan’s new white-ball captain. Kirsten wanted a different captain and demanded another player in the team. Coincidently, both of them are not in the team.”

“He was thinking that maybe he could have full authority. However, he doesn’t know that in Pakistan, even the PCB chairman can get changed overnight,” he added.

The PCB has announced that red ball coach Jason Gillespie to take over Kirsten’s role for the upcoming Australia tour on an interim basis on November 04.

The first match of the ODI series against Australia begins on November 04 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
