“Try to Shift” Basit Ali Calls for Moving Asia Cup 2025 out of India

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has suggested that Jay Shah has made the right choice in giving the right to the Asia Cup 2025 to India.

He pointed out that BCCI secretary Jay Shah who is also the president of the Asia Cricket Council had played a huge game in the and killed two birds with one stone. While speaking in a video Basit Ali said,

“Well done, Jay Shah. You’ve killed two birds with one stone. You kill two birds with one stone, but Basit Ali kills three birds with one stone. Now let me give you some free advice. Try to shift the Asia Cup to some other country. Jay Shah could take a U-turn after my show.”

With Asia Cup 2025 to be hosted by India after 34 years, the tournament will be played for India since 1990. This means that Pakistan has to travel to India for the tournament.

Meanwhile, BCCI and PCB are in an intense debate as India’s cricket team traveling to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy remains uncertain. BCCI has suggested a hybrid model as BCCI is clear of not allowing the team to cross the borders.

“Jay Shah knew that India would have to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy otherwise Pakistan won’t come for the Asia Cup. Pakistan won’t even go for the T20 World Cup if India says no to the Champions Trophy. To hell with the hybrid model. There could also be another lollipop of India adopting a hybrid model for the Asia Cup so that Pakistan do the same for the Champions Trophy.”

Basit Ali also spoke about how Jay Shah won’t be able to get the decision of the 2025 Champions Trophy in BCCI’s favor.

“I agree Jay Shah is very sharp, but the guy in front of him, the current PCB chairman, is also in the same league. Now you will have to come forward openly and declare that the Asia Cup is in India, so we would have to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.”

Notably, there was a similar dispute between BCCI and PCB during the Asia Cup 2023. The event was set to take place in Pakistan, but India proposed a hybrid model which was implemented and the men in blues played all their matches in Sri Lanka including the finals.
