Bangladesh Scores 54/2 in Powerplay against Netherlands at Kingstown

Despite losing two wickets, Bangladesh scored 54 runs in the powerplay during the match against the Netherlands at Kingstown. Bangladesh and Netherlands are scheduled to play in the 27th T20 World Cup 2024 match on June 13 at Arnos Vale Ground, St Vincent.

Aryan Dutt picked two wickets in the powerplay, but Tanzid Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan joined hands to cross the 50+ run mark.

Coming to the toss, Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl where Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto opened the innings for Bangladesh while Vivian Kingma opened the bowling attack. In the second over, Aryan Dutt picked the wicket of Najmul Shanto for 1 run. Shanto plays the premeditated reverse sweep, hits him high on the bat, and goes straight to first slip where Vikramjit easily catches the ball.

Litton Das came to bat but was sent back to the dugout for one run. Shakib Al Hasan joined hands with Tanzid Hasan to score a 48-run partnership. In the 9th over, van Meekeren dismissed Tanzid Hasan for 35 runs. With his dismissal, Bangladesh scored 71 runs losing three wickets. By the end of the 10th over, Bangladesh scored 76 runs.

Towhid Hridoy was sent out for 9 runs by Tim Pringle. Towhid Hridoy backed away attempting a shot, but eventually missed it and his bat struck into the leg stump. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan smashed fifty in 38 deliveries in the 18th over.

Mahmadullah scored 25 runs on 21 deliveries before being dismissed on a short ball delivery from van Meekeren. With Jaker Ali and Shakib Al Hasan’s 14* and 64* runs, Bangladesh scored 159 runs in 20 overs.

With a target of 160 runs, Netherlands started their innings with Michael Levitt and Max ODowd opening the innings while Mustafizur Rahman opened the bowling attack. Michael Levitt was sent out for 18 runs on a length outside off delivery from Taskin Ahmed where he tried to smash it over offside but the ball pierced through the outside half where Hridoy takes an easy catch.

Max ODowd scored 12 runs before being dismissed by Hasan Sakib for 12 runs on a full-length delivery. Despite their dismissals, Vikramjit Singh, Sybrand Engelbrecht, and Scott Edwards scored 26, 33, and 25 runs respectively.

Rishad Hossain picked the wickets of Sybrand, Bas de Leede, and Logan van Beek to collapse the middle order in the match. With Aryan Dutt‘s 25 runs, Netherlands scored 134 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs and suffering a 25-run defeat in the match.
