Young batter Tanzid Hasan claimed himself to be lucky after his half-century in the match against India at MCA stadium.
Tanzid Hasan on his maiden half-century
India is scheduled to play in the 17th ICC World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh on October 19 where India won the match with 7 wickets. On this occasion, Bangladesh’s young batter Tanzid Hasan who idolizes Tamim Iqbal was able to pull off a fifty before being sent out by Kuldeep Yadav.
He came up with a half-century to get another chance to his career by keeping his place in the playing 11 against India if ODI skipper Shakib Al Hasan was available. The Skipper was rested during the match due to the quad tear he sustained during the match against New Zealand.
Bangladesh has been trying out new opening pair combinations in 2023 so far. This pair scored 93 runs in the 15th over before being sent out by Indian bowlers. Despite the good start, the middle-order collapse failed them to set a big score against India.
Rahim and Mahmudullah’s scores of 38 and 46 helped the side to set up a decent score target for India. Tanzid failed to impress during the first three matches as he scored only 5, 1, and 16 in the tournament.
He said he would take the confidence from his maiden half-century against India.
While speaking after the match he said, “Certainly this innings will give me confidence and the team management including the captain and the coach always believed that I can do something good and I am trying my part to do something,” Tanzid told reporters.
“I have failed in the last three matches but today I could do something and I will try to work on my lacking,” he said.
“If the team does not win this innings become worthless but it feels good if I can contribute for the team,” he added. “Look I always opened the innings and as far as I am concerned I was never told that I would bat in a different position.”
Bangladesh ODI skipper Najmul Hasan supported the player and said some is backed he should be backed 100 percent by the team management.
“Every batsman should be backed in this manner (batting in a specific place),” said Najmul. He should not be backed 50-50 but total hundred percent,” he said while adding that they expect more from Tanzid.
“Tanzid played well today but the team expects more and I feel if we all support (him) big innings can be played,” he concluded.
Bangladesh will be playing their next match against South Africa on October 24 at Wankhede Stadium.
