The fielding coach Nick Pothas has said that Bangladesh are trying to find an apt role for Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the T20I team.
Mehidy who has returned to T20Is after more than a year has been part of the T20Is against India. Missing out on the T20 World Cup, Mehidy made a comeback to the T20I set-up after more than a year following Shakib Al Hasan’s retirement from the short format.
Mehidy batted no.7 in the first T20I in Gwalior and has been promoted to No.5 for the second T20I. Pothas said Miraz is a versatile batter and be slotted up and down in the batting order.
“It’s very conditions and we’re very fortunate to have Miraz because he can bat at the top of the order, and he can bat at the middle order, and we have seen the progress he has made from a batting point of view,” said Nick Pothas.
The 26-year-old Mehidy hasn’t had the best of outings with the ball. After bowling only a solitary over in Gwalior.
“You know we have tried him at the top with the ball, which he has done well in the past. The last game, it can happen, it’s T20. He gives us options because he has three skills which are of a very high quality,” Pothas said.
“So at the moment because he wasn’t at the T20 World Cup again, we are going to be using him in different positions to actually find a role where he will play for the future.”
“But at the moment we are very fortunate to have an international cricketer of his standing to be able to use wherever we think he fits in for that particular game and conditions,” Pothas added.
Having lost a 2-0 series, Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh will be looking to avoid to clean sweep in the third and final T20I match on Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
