The scheduled two matches Test series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023. The first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka kick started on May 15.
Sri Lanka struggled and drawn the first match. In the post-match presentation, “Definitely it was going to be a draw,” Sri Lanka batter Dhananjaya de Silva said.
“We knew it on the first day when they were batting, also. There was a very slight chance of Bangladesh to win but the wicket didn’t have anything for the bowlers. We are very happy with the draw.”
Winning the toss Sri Lanka decides to bat first and scored 397 runs for 10 wickets loss. Notably, Mathews missed his double century by just 1 run and went heartbroken.
Aspiring Bangladesh all-rounder Naeem Hasan impressed his side by bagging 6 wickets in the 1st innings. Bangladesh on the other side made a leading of 68 runs with Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim’s individual centuries.
In the second innings, Sri Lanka in concern to draw the match played a steady inning and achieved the result they expected. Dinesh Chandimal made a strong stand in the final inning of Day 5 and restrict Sri Lanka to lose a wicket in their lower middle-order after a top-order collapse.
“The result could have been different had we got one more wicket,” said Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque.
“But the good thing is that as a team we played well. Our batters lived up to the expectation. The spinners bowled well but the pacers couldn’t hit the proper line and length. Hopefully, they will fix it in the next test. When we play as a team, it is tough for other teams to beat us.”
Angelo Mathews is named the Player of the Match for his 199 in the 1st innings. Both teams will lock their horns to play the final and decider test match on May 23 in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
