Bangladesh Cricket team have named Liton Das as captain for the one-day international series against India which begins on December 4. Indian cricket team has been scheduled to tour Bangladesh to play 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches between December 4 – 26.
Liton Das Named as Bangladesh ODI Captain
Notably, India will be playing their last Test match of the series while BCCI hosts the IPL 2023 players auction on December 23.
Bangladesh Cricket Board in their official statement said that their regular captain Tamim was ruled out of the ODI series owing to a groin injury he suffered during the practice match on Wednesday. BCB also said that he remains doubtful for the Test series which is a part of ICC WTC23.
“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” Jalal Yunus, BCB cricket operation chairman was quoted as saying in the media release.
“It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format,” he said.
“He will be missed but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain,” Yunus added.
India arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday for their first tour there since 2015. The first match of the series will be played on December 4 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
The second and third ODI matches will be played on December 7, and 10 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
The two-match Test series will be played on December 14, and December 22 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram and Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
