“Wants to Win the IPL as Captain” Baba Indrajith Hails Ashwin on TNPL 2024 Triumph

The Tamil Nadu batter Baba Indrajith has hailed Ravichandran Ashwin for his impressive run as captain in the Dindigul Dragons’ maiden title win in the TNPL 2024.

Dindigul Dragons has made history during TNPL 2024 and most of the credit for the win goes to the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin. Baba Indrajith played the finest knocks in TNPL history smashing 96 runs in 49 deliveries during the match against Lyca Kovai Kings.

Baba Indrajith, a key player has lauded Ashwin’s leadership and his crucial role which guided them to win the title, and said he wants the spinner to win the IPL as captain.

“Everyone will see him as a captain. He has got a good cricketing brain. Ashwin always tries to be one step ahead of the rivals. He has leadership qualities. Ashwin has the dream of winning an IPL trophy as a skipper,” Indrajith said.

“Ashwin was involved with all the members of the franchise in Tamil Nadu Premier League. From the first person to the 20th person, he spoke to everyone, pushing them to give their best. Even a head coach wouldn’t have done as much,” he added.

He also spoke about his crucial knocks in Dragons qualifying for the playoffs. He said he doesn’t practice that shot in the nets.

“I didn’t practice in the nets for that. I instinctively hit it. I played (that shot) because I instinctively knew it would connect. I back my instincts,” he said. “I practiced the scoop a lot one season. It was one phase. But after that, I realized it came off well when I naturally played it straightaway in the match. So, I don’t practice that kind of shot too much in the practice sessions.

“When I keep things natural, it comes off good for me. As it’s been good for me, I’ve been maintaining it like that. I play that kind of shot directly in the match.” He admitted that he’s similarly been going with the flow when it comes to life at large.

“It’s more of acceptance,” he said. “I am accepting things.” In the 2018-19 season, Indrajith was the top run-getter for India green with an average of 74.50 in three innings in the Duleep Trophy and ended as the top run-getter for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy with an average of 58.27 in 12 innings.

Baba Indrajith was the most recent 2023-24 Ranji Season accumulating 767 runs in 13 innings at an average of 69.72 including two hundreds and four fifties, as Tamil Nadu reached semi-finals in the 2016-17 season.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin considers Indrajith “an unlucky cricketer from Tamil Nadu, who hasn’t had a break to play for India.”
