He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

With Axar Patel ruled out of the squad, there will be hopes for Ashwin in the squad who had displayed an impressive performance in the first two ODIs. Ashwin dismissed Marnus Labuschagne on the first ODI match after his return to the ODI after 611 days. He was quite impressive in the second ODI as he dismissed three wickets. India won the second ODI match against Australia by 99 runs.

With a huge target of 400, Matthew Short and David Warner opened the innings, while Mohammed Shami opened the bowling attack. Matthew Short was sent out with 9 runs while Steven Smith was sent out with a duck by Prasidh Krishna. Due to the rainfall, the overs were reduced to 33 overs and target was set to 317 runs.

David Warner scored 53 runs on 39 deliveries and was dismissed by Ashwin. Other batters were sent out with low figures as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja dismissed three wickets each. Prasidh Krishna scalped two wickets. With batters struggled to face India’s intense bowling attacks, Sean Abbott scored 54 runs on 36 deliveries. With Hazlewood’s 23 runs, Australia was all out scoring 217 runs on 29 overs.

This has raised concerns over his availability for the World Cup tournament. But with the veteran pacer, Ashwin is all set to return to the Indian team before the World Cup.

The BCCI has hinted that Axar Patel will be back in fitness before the Warm-up games. This could put Ajit Agarkar and his team in a serious problem. Despite Ashwin’s chances continuing to grow, the selectors have not announced a replacement for Axar for the upcoming game.

The players Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur for the third ODI match against Australia. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who were rested for the first two matches, and the pacer Jasprit Bumrah who rested on the second ODI will be returning for the third match of the series.
