Post winning the first Test match, the hosts Australia faced South Africa in Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne to play the 2nd Test of the series. The 2nd Test match will play a crucial role in the 3-match Test series as Australia leads the series by 1-0.

South Africa needs to win the match in order to stay alive in the series. Australia leads the WTC 2021-23 points table with 76.92 PTC while South Africa holds the 3rd position behind India.

Winning the toss Australia opted to bowl first where Elgar and Sarel Erwee made their way to the crease.

Though South Africa seemed to make a decent start, the hosts made an aggressive bowling attack. South African batters struggled to build a partnership and lost their top 5 wickets for just 67 runs.

Verreynne and Marco Jansen made a stand and build a 112 runs partnership and pose a great threat to the Australian bowling unit. But Cameron Green who earlier dismissed Theunis de Bruyn proved his worth by dismissing both half-Centurian in back-to-back overs.

With another couple of lower-order wickets, Cameron Green just flipped South Africa’s 1st inning. South Africa scored 189 runs for 10 wickets in their 1st inning.

Cameron Green bagged his first 5 wicket haul in Test cricket in just 10.4 overs at an economy rate of 2.50. Notably, Cameron Green becomes the second most expensive player of the recently concluded IPL 2023 Auction.

On December 23, Cameron Green becomes the Mumbai Indian’s costliest signing in IPL history – INR 17.5 crore.
