AUS vs IND 5th test playing 11; Rohit axed, Prasidh Krishna included

AUS vs IND 5th test playing 11: Indian test captain Rohit Sharma has been axed from the playing 11 of the last and final test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The fifth and final test of the India tour of Australia 2024-25 is scheduled to be played between January 3 and 7 in Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney.

The Indian cricket team is scheduled to tour Australia to play five tests between 22 November 2024 and 7 January 2025. Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be the first Test series between India and Australia comprising five matches since 1992.

Australia leads the five-match test series 2-1 as the third test ended up in a draw. India has to win the game in order to draw the series while the hosts will seek to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

When we look back at the India National Cricket Team vs Australia Cricket Team Timeline, Australia hasn’t won the BGT title since the 2014/15 season.

Winning the toss, India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah said “We are looking to bat first. We have played some good cricket. The last match was exciting. The grass doesn’t look spicy. We always have learnt to digest defeats. We will look forward to this. Our skipper has opted to rest. It shows the unity we have. We have two changes. Rohit has opted out and Prasidh comes in for the injured Akashdeep”.

During the toss Australian captain Pat Cummins said “We were looking to bat as well. But it is overcast and hopefully we will swing the ball early. Sell out in the first few days. Just kept replaying in our heads the last session. Feels like every summer gets bigger and bigger here in Australia. This week is always special. Just one change. Beau Webster is debuting in place of Mitchell Marsh“.

    What to expect in Sydney?

The impact of the weather in Sydney is such that we are always hooked on the skies above and not so much on the 22 yards below. But reports and forecasts suggest that we might get away with only a late shower, late in the piece.

And that the Test match should have progressed quite a bit by the time the seasonal rains arrive. That leaves us with the pitch and it’s expected to be the best we’ve had so far this summer.

In terms of how much it’ll assist all comers, including the fast bowlers while being probably the best chance for the batters to cash in. The weekend is expected to be quite warm, and that will add an extra layer of interest to what happens at the toss.
