India test player Ravichandran Ashwin are on the brink of shattering major milestones in the first test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
India and New Zealand are set to clash in a three-match test series played between October 16 and November 05. India created history by winning a two-match test series against Bangladesh and will be aiming to repeat the win against the Kiwis.
Ashwin is just a four-wicket trail from breaking Nathan Lyon’s record of taking 530 wickets and also becoming the joint seventh-highest wicket-taker in the red ball cricket.
Currently, he has 527 wickets in 102 test matches he played with an average of 23.65 including 37 five-wicket hauls. Check out the list of players to have the most wickets in WTC history.
- Nathan Lyon (Australia) – 187
- Ravichandran Ashwin (India) – 185
- Pat Cummins (Australia) – 175
- Mitchell Starc (Australia) – 147

Along with the allrounder, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are eyeing achieving big milestones in the series opener against New Zealand on Wednesday.
Rohit Sharma is now four sixes short from becoming the country’s highest six hitter in Tests. He had smashed 87 sixes in 61 test matches and is now only three sixes away from Virender Sehwag’s record of smashing 90 sixes which is the highest by any Indian batter.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is on the verge of achieving the milestone of reaching 9000 test runs as he is only 53 runs away in red cricket.
He has amassed 8947 runs in 115 matches with an average of 48.89, which also includes 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He will also become the fourth Indian cricketer to have achieved the milestone.
If he achieved the feat during the first innings of the IND-NZ first test, he will become the 12th fastest cricketer to do so.
The first test of the India-New Zealand tests has been delayed due to consistent rain at Bengaluru.
