De Silva wants ‘Suitable Punishment’ for Bio-bubble Breached Sri Lankan Players

Former Sri Lanka captain Aravinda de Silva has called for strict action against the trio that found themselves under the spotlight for wrong reasons in the recent England tour.

Aravinda de Silva slams Sri Lankan Players

Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka breaching the bio-bubble after a 3-0 whitewash in the T20Is led to harsh consequences.

The trio returned home from England immediately and reports suggested that they could face a ban of nearly a year. Furthermore, Sri Lanka ended the tour winless in five games, with the third ODI abandoned due to persistent rains

De Silva, who is also the chairman of the SLC cricket committee, said the trio have always had a bad name in the sport and should be punished appropriately for their latest misdemeanor.

“They should have realized their misbehavior and especially what was the fault they have done off the field. They should realize their responsibility and represent the country. When a bio-bubble is created they have to live according to the rules and regulations”.

“These three players have had bad records earlier in their career. If we had given a suitable punishment at that time, they would have not repeated this type of mistake. If we cannot give them the suitable punishment, they will never learn a lesson from this incident,” De Silva was quoted as saying by dailynews.lk.

The Sri Lankan cricket board has formed a five-member committee that will investigate the case and hand out suitable punishments. Some reports suggest the three could face a lengthy ban of a year from international cricket. The three players are currently on a temporary ban, with the committee investigating the matter.
